One of my favorite Michael Berry radio bits has always been the Congresswoman Sheila “those are resources that I have “ Jackson Lee clip. Michael could update the bit with news of Sheila’s latest adventure. No, not the February 2013 world trip to the two Vietnam’s and Cambodia.
Imagine for a moment you are Sheila Jackson Lee. Your constituents know you asked Attorney General Eric Holder to specifically investigate True the Vote, know TTV’s IRS approval for 501 c4 status has yet to be approved, have read Ed’s post on the status of Organizing For America’s 501 c 4 application, and you want to hide from Houston voters over the Memorial Day recess. Where on earth would YOU be?
Anywhere but in your Houston district, I’d bet.
Maybe you’d be in Azerbaijan?
From the US-Azerbaijan conference website, Special Sessions section:
SPECIAL SESSION III (Ballroom C)
Conversation with Mikayil Jabbarov, George Friedman, Congressmen Ruben Hinojosa, Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee and Congresswoman Yvette Clark on “Turning Black Gold into Human Capital: Investing in Azerbaijan’s Future”
MODERATOR: Fariz Ismailzadeh
Texas Congresswoman Sheila Jackson-Lee, Valerie Biden-Owens (the sister of Vice President Joe Biden), former White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs, former (good riddance) Indiana Senator Dick Lugar and Texas Congressmen Steve Stockman, Ted Poe and Ruben Hinojosa were all scheduled speakers at the conference.
The conference was held Tuesday May 28th through Wednesday May 29th. Sheila Jackson Lee was scheduled to speak at a noon special session, probably on Wednesday May 29th.
Why do I say “probably” on Wednesday May 29th?
Because unless she’s Superwoman it’d be quite a feat to lay a wreath at The Heights World War II Memorial on Monday May 27th at 12 noon CST (9:00 pm in Baku), get on a plane, make a few refueling stops along the way and land in Baku not just refreshed & fed, but also in time for a 12 noon Tuesday May 28th conference presentation.
…and aren’t you wondering which “resources” were used to pay for the trip and if those costs will be reported to the Clerk of the House of Representatives?
