Sen. Cornyn's Deleted Tweet a Glimpse of the Future for Republicans

He deleted his tweet.

Sorry that I don’t have a screenshot of his original tweet, it never occurred to me that such an innocuous tweet would be deleted. I also am 99.9{997ab4c1e65fa660c64e6dfea23d436a73c89d6254ad3ae72f887cf583448986} positive that Sen. Cornyn doesn’t do his own tweeting – most likely someone on his communications team does that.

But I thought it was telling because this is certainly what the future holds for Republicans. As they enter the “social media” stage, and find out that it isn’t a one-way street, they’ll face these decisions frequently. Sen. D_n Patrick is probably the most prolific Texas politician to use Facebook and he routinely deletes responses that he doesn’t like or that do not support his agenda.

More to the point, Republicans are NOT going to defund NPR. They just aren’t. Forget that the possibility of them controlling both houses of the federal government is infinitely small, or that the possibility of controlling 60 seats in the Senate doesn’t exist, the majority of them support public spending on broadcasting. Republicans aren’t Libertarians and most of them that have been in political offices for any length of time have lost any libertarian instincts they ever had. See Kevin Brady for a prime example of that.

In other words, Tea Party peeps, you are going to be SORELY disappointed if you think that your support of Republicans is going to pay off in any big, fundamental way after the 2010 election. Yes, it will put a halt to President Obama’s largess in some areas but he’s still going to be playing golf and eating Kobe beef while an ever increasing number of Americans are on food stamps. And Republican leaders are going to fall all over themselves if he invites them to one of his parties.

Thanks, Sen. Cornyn, for reminding me of that.

And for you tea parties that have basically sold yourselves to the Republican party, enjoy your lunches and handshakes with R’s because that is all you are going to get for your efforts.
