Of Lords and Serfs: Dannie wants his gun

My, my, power doth change a man, no? It wasn't too long ago that radio talk show host Dan Patrick was fighting for the little guy, the taxpayer. These days Sen. Dan Patrick prefers the special treatment that someone of his status deserves.

Section 46.035 (Unlawful Carrying of Handgun by License Holder), Penal Code, lists several locations where concealed handguns are not permitted. Those locations include sporting events, churches, hospitals, and drinking establishments. Under current law, certain office holders are exempted from that provision. Those currently exempted are judges and justices of a federal court, active judicial officers, district attorneys, assistant district attorneys, and county and assistant county attorneys.

C.S.S.B. 905 amends current law relating to the application of certain concealed handgun license laws to statewide elected officials, certain current and former members of the legislature, and certain federal and state employees.

That quote comes from the "Author's Intent" statement for SB 905, which is authored by Dannie. Or should I say "Lord Patrick"? Perhaps I should just go straight to "Your Grace", bowing all the while? For you serfs in Pasadena, the intent of this bill is to allow special people such as Lord Patrick to carry their guns in places that are off-limits to peasants. Like you. And me.

Second Amendment? Oh please, that quaint old part of the U.S. Constitution needs to be reigned in, surely you understand that!

What's next? Will Lord Patrick try to exempt himself from his quest to put roadblocks in place? That way he won't get stopped on his way to Hooters after a "friendly" gambling session, er, I mean poker game.
