1. Who are you, and what are you running for?
I am Judge Jacqueline Lucci Smith and I am running for re-election to the County Civil Court at Law 2.
2. What kind of cases does this court hear?
This is a civil court that has exclusive jurisdiction over eminent domain cases, civil cases up to $100,000 including car accident cases and debt collections. It also deals with cases where a driver’s license has been revoked and someone is pleading hardship for work/church needs.
3. Why are you running for this particular bench?
I ran for this bench initially because there was a lack of discipline and integrity. I won the Republican primary in 2006 beating the incumbent with 67.5{997ab4c1e65fa660c64e6dfea23d436a73c89d6254ad3ae72f887cf583448986} of the vote. There was a deep need for change. I want to continue to implement the strategies I have created to streamline the docket and make sure that all who appear before the bench are treated equally and are heard. Also, public service is an honor. I have excelled at each level by adhering to conservative principles and I want to continue to serve the people who appear before this court.
4. What are your qualifications for this job?
My educational background and my performance as the Judge on this bench show my qualifications.
I graduated Summa Cum Laude from the College of Boca Rotan. I graduated Order of the Lytae from South Texas School of Law. I was Director and Legal Counsel Harris County Tax Office 2001-2006, Assistant Harris County Attorney, General Counsel and Appellate Divisions, 1998-2001, Countrywide Builders, In House Counsel 1998, Jacqueline Lucci, PC, President/Attorney 1993-1998
I have served this court the last four years with distinction. I have disposed of 14,000 cases including 2500 bench trials, 150 jury trials, and 600 appeals. I have implemented new docket procedures to reduce the docket from 5000 to 3800 cases. My bar association ratings are high and I have several key endorsements including the Houston Chronicle and Katy Christian Magazine.
5. Why is this race important?
This race is important because it directly affects the citizens of Harris County. Property owners, consumers, drivers are all likely at some point to find themselves in court. It matters who serves. I have the integrity, judicial philosophy, and experience to best represent the people of Harris County on this bench.
6. Why should people vote for you in November?
I have worked diligently during my first term to restore the integrity to this bench. I have worked to move the docket while showing fairness and respect to all who come before me. I am on the right track with this court. I am proud to serve the citizens of Harris County. I am campaigning hard to protect this court. We have accomplished much since I took this bench in 2007 but there is still more to be done. To learn more please visit www.JudgeJLSmith.com .
