I was armed with information on how they could attack the problem of being uninsured in Harris County. My friend’s husband was very interested in the catastrophic policies that I showed him by simply doing a Google search. We found a policy for his wife for $83/ month with Blue cross Blue Shield just by performing a Google search for catastrophic policies (it had a high deductible of $5000). I told him the questions to ask to make sure he gets a policy to meet their needs.
Then, I found some cash clinics since they don’t qualify for low income as business owners. This pdf file has some clinics that are dedicated to the uninsured; see clinics under “Independent” with a statement saying they only serve the uninsured. This safety net resource is found on Gateway to Care; which is a non-profit organization that helps the uninsured. Finally, I instructed my friend to have the physician at one of the cash clinics to complete a form to go to the Rose Clinic. This is the form that is required for a referral.
They were so grateful for the information. In fact, she hugged me and ran to the back of the store to bring me back a cold drink and 4 apples she wanted to give me. All she keep saying was she couldn’t believe that any one would spend that much time searching for resources for them. I think that is because “the love of many has grown cold”! Why is it so surprising for neighbor to help neighbor without wanting anything in return?
We both walked a way with something…what Christ always intended… love for one another.
