Received this from Galveston Mayor Joe Jaworski:
40,000 Trees Lost To Hurricane Ike
Greetings from Mayor Joe Jaworski
I am asking you for your urgent, positive help so Galveston can achieve something spectacular and lasting. Whether you live in Galveston or not, please vote to reforest Galveston Island. We lost 40,000 trees in Hurricane Ike, but the City and its lead partner The Galveston Island Tree Conservancy have planted thousands of trees throughout the City.
Galveston is now in a neck-and-neck tie to win a $50,000 grant to reforest our Island. We can win this award if you will vote once every day for the next week – the final day to vote is September 13.
I am sending this out to my considerable email list, and I am asking all of you regardless of your zip code, to PLEASE vote for Galveston Island Tree Conservancy so we can beautify the Island and restore our tree canopy.
We are all Galvestonians one way or another, so let’s band together, vote in undeniable numbers every day through September 13, and let’s win this!
Thank you and Onward!
Mayor Joe Jaworski
