As we all know, a runoff election brings out the best in candidates! Oh, wait…maybe not! I suppose it depends on the candidate.
Ol’ Roy is back at it. Roy Morales, that is. He’s in a runoff election and will do most anything to win. After all, he’s been running a long time for a variety of offices – at some point, desperation has to set in. So he’ll apparently do anything at all to win – except be honest. Take a look at his most recent mailer:
Whoa. Greg Abbott endorsed Roy? Really? And Rep. Ted Poe? Wow, ol’ Roy really got some choice endorsements, didn’t he?
Well, no, he didn’t. Go to Rep. Ted Poe’s website and you’ll find this on his home page:
Well I’ll be: photo “used without permission”. Say goodbye to Ted Poe’s endorsement. And I’ll bet you a dozen Krispy Kreme donuts that Greg Abbott didn’t endorse him either.
But hey, it’s Roy’s world, we all just live here. Because, you know, he “knows stuff”.
I really liked this part of the mailer:
Wow, that’s impressive! Ol’ Roy got 100% of the vote in his Harris County Department of Education (County School Trustee) Republican primary win in 2006! But wait, there’s more! Look at who he defeated:
Oh. No one. It’s pretty easy to get 100% when you are the only guy on the ballot.
Looks like ol’ Roy is going for the idiot voter. AKA the uninformed. AKA the easily duped.
This mailer pretty much negates his answer on big dog’s questionnaire (along with this, of course):
1. What distinguishes you from your opponent?
Honesty, Integrity, Education and Transparency.
Heh. So much for that one.
Tom Zakes says
Interesting that the mailout lists “Harris County Precinct Chairs”. I think by that he actually means that he has at least two, not that he has all, or even a majority of us.
I’m Tom Zakes, and I approve this message.
texaswoman says
As we used to laugh and say ” Deja vu all over again” .. .This is a Democrat campaign. Maybe Roy needs to change parties hahahaha
Kevin Fulton says
Hey I’m just happy that this mailer doesn’t have any angry looking black people appearing to attack someone white next to the Kubosh name.
David Jennings says
Ah, I remember that one, Kevin! Who sent racist email attacking Michael Kubosh?
fcravens says
Isn’t ‘Ol’ Roy’ the name of a dog food at WalMart?
Cuneo says
Now, let’s have a look at the flyer Kubosh sent out today. Let’s be fair and balanced. In the Kubosh mailer Kubosh is quite proud of his democrat roots and supporters and is clearly counting on Quannell X to get him the votes he needs to win. In the Kubosh mailer, Morales is criticized for being a conservative while there is no mention of Kubosh being a conservative or a Republican.
Jack O'Connor says
I just received an email with a cc of the mailer from the Kubosh campaign. It indicated that it was sent to David Jennings as well. I remain neutral in this race, but it appears that Big Jolly is cleary in the Kubosh camp. Up until now I understand why. The Kubosh mailer will make it much more difficult for Republicans and conservatives to gain support in the city and county. Wittingly or unwittingly, the Kubosh campaign is unfairly creating problems for Republicans in the Black, Hispanic, and Asian Communities within the city and county.
If the Kubosh mailer that Mr. Jennings has in his possession does not make it clear to him and others that the mailer hurts the Republicans then the Party is in trouble. Mr. Kubosh has great success in building up support among Republicans while gaining the support of unions and other more liberal groups. That maybe acceptable to some but it should not be at the expense of the Republican Party. More minorities are moving right and we would like to see that continue. It is also not irregular or racist to be concerned by the courtship of Quannell X and the concern is diverse.
Both candidates have good qualities but neither maybe the ideal candidate. While one candidate may be attracting the anger of the voters because of his pettiness, we should keep an eye on the other one to insure that all candidates know that they are human and we care.
Would Mr. Jennings also give us an account of the endorsements by Republican and Conservative groups in this race. I believe there are some surprises.
David Jennings says
Jack,
I don’t know which email you rec’d that indicated that I was cc’d on it. I rec’d an email from Carmen Cueno last night via bcc that had an attached flyer which she objected to.
Unfortunately, I’m not as brilliant and intelligent as you and it takes me some time to think about a topic and sort it out before I comment on it, if I ever do. Plus, as in this case, I will ask the advice of others. In fact, I even emailed a few questions to Carmen, to which I have not rec’d a reply.
As I told Carmen, I think I will write about this. But at this point, I don’t know, nor do I understand Carmen’s specific objections. When I do, if I do, I’ll write about it.
I truly wish that I were as brilliant and intelligent as you and could fire off such pithy knee jerk reactions as yours. FWIW, I do support Mike Kubosh. BigJollyPolitics.com does not – each writer is free to express their own opinion, we do not do group editorials.
I admit that I’m having a very hard time understanding how this flyer (if indeed it is the same one you reference) hurts Republicans in the future with minorities. I’d argue the opposite, if I were brilliant enough to argue with you.
I would LOVE to see your statistics that allow you to say “More minorities are moving right and we would like to see that continue.” Every study that I’ve seen says the opposite.
I cannot give you an “account” of who is endorsing whom because I do not know.
Cheers!
Jack O'Connor says
I believe the Polland Group endorsed Mike.
Paul Kubosh says
I believe Ted Poe and Abbott endorsed Morales. Right Jack? How about Posting contributions to Republicans? You didn’t quote that mailer either. Did you miss it? How much did Roy contribute to Republicans? How far do you want to go?
Paul Kubosh says
Jack you are not neutral on this race and you have publically come out against Mike. That is fine but you and Alvin Walker both publically said you were not supporting Mike. I know you are angry over the Mayor’s race from last year and that is fine. Just make it clear. At least Carmen is clear about her support for Roy and detailed it in an email to Mike.
Everyone knows Mike is a Republican even his Democrat opponents. Some of them even put nice Republican stickers on our signs in the African American Communities. The response we have been getting at the polls in the General Election was “I don’t care if he is a Republican I am voting for him anyway.” What other Republican in all of the City of Houston has ever won the Fort Bend County boxes? Mike has been referred to as a Bridge by many people in the African American Community.
Finally, get over the Quannell thing. He hasn’t given Mike any financial support and except for the opening announcement where Mike had leaders of the tea party and Quannel I havn’t seen or heard from him.
Remember it is a City election not a national election pot holes don’t know if the Car that is being torn up is being driven by a Republican or a Democrat.
eric dick says
I think its awesome that we have two Republicans to pick from. This rarely happens
Jack O'Connor says
To Paul Kubosh……I am neutral on this race. It appears that if one is not with you, he is against you. Not a good tact to take. My only stated issue with Mike or the Kubosh campaign was with the Kubosh mailer on Roy Morales jumping Democrats (Nasty remarks) which was forwarded to me. I do not consider that mailer as well as Morales’ taking the high road or if even if it helped more than hurt Mike’s campaign or the Republican Party.
There are two streams to Big Jolly. David Jennings asked me if I had seen Paul’s response on this stream. I thought he meant Paul Bettencourt. In any event, I have heard people say that “I don’t care if he’s a Democrat, I am voting for Mike anyway” Mike Kubosh is Mike Kubosh. Again I trust that if Mike is elected that discourse rather than throwing bombs and acrimony will prevail. You should look at what was said on the FB stream. It appeared that my original comment on the Big Jolly website did not register so I commented on the facebook venue.
I think a lot of people were angry at me because I ran for Mayor (two years ago) not the other way around. Fernando Hererra was not one of them, however, as he indicated to me. I believe he saw the potential runoff opprtunity for him. My familly was mad at me but I was excited that we got close to forcing a run off. If your brother was supporting Wilson or Fernando, it did not matter since I had the most votes and would have been in the runoff with Parker if it gone that way. My family has not let that go to my head. For now I enjoy the independance to voice my opinions.
If you remember you requested a lunch meeting with me to talk about my plans. You gave me the impression that you may have wanted to help me. As you may recall I did not request your support or request the lunch.
Paul…..my original and subsequent comments and opinions were focused on the wisdom of these types of mailers in general. The mailers that I have seen from both sides of this runoff did not do justice to the Republican Party. My opinion.
Jack O'Connor says
Paul…..as far as the endorsements and contributions go you appear to be much better versed on it. I was asking David Jennings if he had any updates on the “pay to play”. Polland’s group along with Lowry’s and Hotze’s came under Big Jolly’s scrutiny in 2010. Big Jolly’s post earlier today discussed the potential negative impact of the “pay to play” that is very current.
