In this installment, candidate Brenda Page tells voters what her top three issues are in her quest unseat Democratic Congresswoman Sheila Jackson-Lee.
Small business
Fulfilling the promise of America is about ensuring a capitalistic, free market system so small businesses can thrive. Today our federal government, led by a liberal majority, commit offensive misconduct to “We the People” of this great nation. Congress betrays the public trust. So the task of ensuring a market where people are free to create as much or as little personal wealth as they choose is a big one.
Individuals must be free to thrive as entrepreneurs. Businesses must be able to be created and expand. Currently restraints like financial uncertainty and increasing taxes create restraints on the free market. Opposition to the deficit and other issues has ignited individuals all over this country in the form of tea parties and other groups. Businesses share the same concerns as individuals. Small business owners worry because their business supports not only their own families but provides income and support to employees and their families. Removing constraints on individuals and businesses that hamper their ability to succeed is vital to a free market society.
Our district is primarily composed of small businesses. Businesses succeed when our government lowers taxes and works to promote business growth. When the future economy is uncertain, business owners are reluctant to hire, spend, and expand. The huge deficit that has been incurred over the last year creates an atmosphere of concern about increased taxes, market fluctuation, and inflation which leads to increased prices on goods and services. It’s like balancing a checkbook, realizing there’s no money to pay the bills, then printing out fake money in your garage to make up the difference. We must take common sense steps to reduce spending, the deficit, and taxes, and bring certainty back to our district, so that entrepreneurial individuals and businesses can fulfill the promise of America. Jobs
Small businesses provide most of the jobs in this district and in our country. Providing incentives for small businesses to grow and create jobs is critical to a better economy. A healthy economy creates more jobs. I am a small business owner. I know what hurts and what works in business. I understand the stresses and concerns of small businesses. Higher payroll taxes hurt small businesses and keep them from growing, and from providing jobs. We need our small businesses to succeed. We need new small businesses to be created and succeed so that more jobs are created.
Many jobs are outsourced out of our country to India, Asia, South America and beyond. Businesses outsource jobs when government increases the cost of doing business in America. Lower taxes and government incentives keep jobs in America. It’s time to enact common sense solutions and practices to grow jobs in our district and in America. We have the workers here, let’s keep the jobs here.
With your support we can ensure jobs that provide the means to support the families and individuals of our district. Turn the page to a better economy in our district. Turn to Brenda Z. Page.
Education
Students today are the leaders of our tomorrow. Statistics estimate that our district has a student drop-out rate of 40{997ab4c1e65fa660c64e6dfea23d436a73c89d6254ad3ae72f887cf583448986}. This is unacceptable. Encouraging schools to provide students with opportunities to improve their education should be the focus instead of forcing students to accept standards that under-utilize.
Many schools in the greater Houston area have implemented successful programs that challenge and reward students in non-traditional ways. Local school boards must be allowed greater flexibility to improve academic achievement. Local school boards should be allowed the freedom to reduce regulation and to use federal funds as they see fit. Local decisions and local control are critical to strengthening the educational system. Congress needs to get out of the way and allow our local educators to help today’s students become the leaders of tomorrow.
