This year, really the past 18 or so months, have been trying for us as a party and a nation.
Domestically, after President Trump won the primary the media turned on him, and the seemingly never ending hate stream commenced. This spilled over not only to us as a party, but has consumed a significant chunk of media time bombarding the nation with hatred. That lead to antifa and general unrly behavior by the left. Along came a Twitter storm in response, and the cycle of discord began to perpetuate.
Foreign issues only heped raise the general level of angst. The media is set on establishing Russian interference in the election, to the point that facts are an inconvenient truth. North Korea has been testing nukes like fireworks on New Years, and very likely have the capability to send a nuke to our shores. Turmoil in the Middle East seems about to flare again.
As a local party, we were swept in the general election, and suffered the same fate in the pseudo nonpartisan aspects of the election this year. The rift between Empower Texans and the moderate wing of the GOP erupted into open warfare. The upcoming primaries are shaping up to be downright nasty. It seems like ill will pervades all levels of the country.
Perhaps this Christmas Eve gives us a time to stop and reflect on the good we have, and what brings us together rather than focus on what drives us apart.
Back in August we had a devastating hurricane. Race, gender, ideology didn’t matter in August. Neighbors helped neighbors, and for a brief period we were all Houstonians. We all came together in ways known and unknown to do the good we could no matter how great or small.
We’re not Venezuela. Since oil prices dropped the economy there has collapsed leading to a child malnutrition crises. Sure, we have homeless and hungry, but we have systems in place to combat the problem; and good people like Eric Dick fighting the city over the feeding ban.
Take a moment today and push the chaos and ill will away. Remember the reason we celebrate Christmas. In the still and quiet of the night after time with friends or family take a moment to count your blessings. Most of us have had a trial this year in some fashion. Let’s grow more compassionate from the struggles we have faced.
May the Lord watch over you and keep you close to His Heart this Christmas, and may a bit of peace return to us all.
