The district has been represented in the Texas House by Rep.Ellen Cohen (D) since she defeated incumbent Martha Wong (R) in 2006 by a margin of 55.8{997ab4c1e65fa660c64e6dfea23d436a73c89d6254ad3ae72f887cf583448986} to 44.2{997ab4c1e65fa660c64e6dfea23d436a73c89d6254ad3ae72f887cf583448986}. Economically, the district fares much better than most in Texas, with poverty rates about 1/2 of the state average and per-capita income 62{997ab4c1e65fa660c64e6dfea23d436a73c89d6254ad3ae72f887cf583448986} above the state average.
