Judicial Q&A: James Lombardino

(Note: I am running a series of Q&As for judicial candidates in contested Republican primaries. There are a lot of judicial races on the ballot in Harris County this election, and so this is intended to help introduce the candidates and their experiences to those who plan to vote in March. I am running these responses in the order that I receive them from the candidates. Charles Kuffner at Off the Kuff is running the same series for Democratic candidates.)

1. Who are you, and what are you running for?

My name is James Lombardino.  I am an attorney practicing Family Law and a candidate for the 308th Family District Court in Harris County, Texas.  I was born in San Antonio, Texas, and moved to Houston to attend the University of Houston and then the South Texas College of Law.  I am married and have two sons, David and Michael.  More information on my candidacy can be found at www.Lombardino4Judge.com.

2. What kind of cases does this court hear?

The 308th Family District Court hears divorces, child custody cases, child support and visitation matters, termination cases (terminating the parent-child relationship if the parent has abused the child or if a parent has abandoned the child), adoptions, modification of child support and cases brought by Child Protective Services cases when a child is in danger or abandoned.

3. Why are you running for this particular bench?

I have had a long legal career and now have an opportunity to use my experience and knowledge to help families in crisis.

4. What are your qualifications for this job?

I have a business degree in finance from the University of Houston and a law degree from the South Texas College of Law.  I began my legal career as an Assistant District Attorney.  Thereafter, I became a partner in a downtown law firm, and I am currently a small business owner running my own law firm in the Galleria area.  I have tried numerous jury and non-jury cases in the Civil Courts, the Criminal Courts and the Family Law Courts.  For the last ten years I have concentrated my practice in Family Law.

5. Why is this race important?

The Family Courts affect every person who seeks a divorce or has child custody or child support issues.  They also handle family violence cases, termination of parent’s rights and adoption of children.

6. Why should people vote for you in the primary?

People should vote for me because of my 30 years of experience and because I have tried numerous cases in the criminal courts, the civil courts and the family law courts.  In addition, I have been endorsed by the “C” Club, the Houston Realty Business Coalition, the Conservative Republicans of Texas, the Katy Christian Magazine, the Honorable Paul Bettencourt, the Honorable Paul Pressler and many community leaders.

7. Why did you choose to run in the Republican Primary versus the Democratic Primary?

The Republican Party stands for family values, and I have been active in the Republican Party for many years.
